The Answer

 

The answer is “Omerice”, a Japanese dish. We pan-fly beaten egg like crepe and wrap rice fried with chopped onions, salt, pepper and ketchup with it. It is fusion of a western food an Omelet and a Japanese staple food rice. An omelet containing fried rice

 

 

Omerice is served at an ordinary home as dinner and a restaurant which is visited by ordinary people.  And it has been loved by many children and grown-ups. It is a very popular dish among the children.

And we often make Omerice when we don’t have enough time and recipe ingredients to make a dinner because it is easy to make and we need only eggs, rice and some vegetables.

And it costs 600yen~1000yen. It is about the same as three BigMacs

But, most people who like Omrice think that it is not Japanese recipes but foreign recipes.

 

Omerice was invented by a Japanese cook in Meiji or Taisyo era ,150 years ago, for the first time. In those days, Japanese went all out to catch up with other countries. They copied foreign cultures to catch up with Western culture. For example, western clothes, building built with bricks and railroads etc. Recipes are also among them.

So, Japanese cooks tried to invent new recipes combine in with Japan and other countries dishes. For example, croquettes and so on. One of those new dishes was Omerice. Omerice is a combination of Japan and France.

 

Today, Omerice is arranged for many forms.
